“Norway Genealogy for Beginners”

Many of us have Norwegian ancestors who settled in the Midwest, but because of patronymic surnames and farm names, they can be difficult to trace back to Norway. In this beginning class, our July speaker will demonstrate how by learning a few simple steps, you can find your Norwegian ancestors in online websites without ever having to leave your home. We will learn the best websites to find records, traditional naming patterns, how to read parish records and learn about bygdebøker, or Norwegian “farm books,” a wonderful genealogical resource.
About the speaker: Julie Merrill is an Accredited Genealogist who works as a Research Manager for Ancestry® ProGenealogists. On three episodes of NBC’s Who Do You Think You Are she was the principal researcher, as well as numerous research projects for television and movie stars. She is a frequent lecturer at Rootstech and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others. Having a passion for finding families has driven her almost thirty years of experience. Southern States, African American and Scandinavian Research are her specialties.
